2012-Making the Golem Real

How was I able, throughout so much of my life, to justify separating myself from what was actually occurring on this planet – spending so much of my life within the world of spirituality – how did I justify the idea that my responsibility for the earth and all who are here was “less than” the concerns of a delusional “spirit body”? By using myself as an example of misguided intention, can I draw conclusions that help explain how this mechanism works on a global scale – where each of us chooses to see our lives and our bodies as mere teleportation devices to the god realms?

In Jewish tradition there is the story of the golem. The golem is a Frankenstein-type creator, a "dumb" or "helpless" stand-in for the creator. The golem will, for the most part, do the bidding of the creator.

Everywhere I look I see golems. I see the golems I have created and I see the larger golem entities created by the collective. My golem was a silly and dangerous fool, charged with a belief system that energy should be controlled and directed to transcend this world and that this transcendence of physical reality was superior to what was here; superior to living here and taking responsibility for what is here.

My Golem hung around with other golems in well-appointed social clubs of the mind where they discussed invisible worlds and “spirit guides” – amusement parks of “oneness”, never-never lands are where all needs are met – where the starving and abused people here from earth laugh off the “unreality” of their karmic lessons. These silly golems busy themselves reading each other’s palms, contacting spirit “guides” and wrapping cords around each other for “ritual sake.” All the while the world is going to hell and the great lie is perpetuated – that there is somewhere else to go for salvation; that we don’t actually have to create heaven here on earth and that all is well in a ying/yang balance with God at the helm.

“I’m alive today” says the farmer, “but part of the farming population is going to be sacrificed and is going to die because of this.”

God’s golems are busy destroying the planet. WTF is God thinking? And while “Rome burns” the silly golems of the new age are gathered along the Hudson, up the valleys of Hollywood and tucked away in cabins in Bozeman believing, “Humanity is moving toward a planetary civilization with growth pangs …and while the world can still be seen as a rolling hell pit, a significant historic shift in values is also evident and many of us are experimenting with models of a freer, fairer, more eco-conscious lifestyle.” (http://www.cosm.org/)

The Golem is spirituality, religion, and consciousness. The Golem says, “2012 points to anew potential in human consciousness, a transitional portal in alignment with galactic center.” (http://www.cosm.org/)

The Golem will never be able to show us any real change because golems never challenge the actual system. The Golem accepts and promotes polarity, separation and hierarchy as necessary for growth. The Golem believes in deficiency and our inability to solve the basic problems of providing food and shelter for all.

That's why the Jews considered the Golem to be a dumb schmuck.

The TINA Phenomena

TINA is an acronym for "There Is No Alternative." TINA prevades our world, creating a vaseline screen of denial; pulling the world out of focus so we don't have really see the nightmare that is our current monetary system.

The reason so many can't hear – and won't hear – about alternative solutions is because they will not imagine an alternative. Beyond the fraudulence of this massive brainwashing there is an important point to remember: there is no going "off the grid" on this one. By continuing to accept the world monetary system the way it is – by continuing to accept the way we have allowed corporate interests to supersede the interests of what is best for us – we are the actual creators, culprits. We are responsible.

So to all the alternative folks ... to anyone who thinks they exist as "outsiders" ... no one gets out of this – we are all responsible. Yes, we can exist passively with our "TINAs" in tack, but when we have been presented with working alternatives such as the Basic Income Grant and Equal Money are we not suffering from a serious pathology if we do not try these options?

Investigate Equal Money and the Basic Income Grant. Obviously, these altenatives are not going to happen "overnight"; but with each one stopping our individual TINAs (not our Tina Turners!) and standing together, we can support each other and all the millions trashed by our current system of greed.

Nothing Tolle says is unique. He has taken knowledge and information, mostly from Buddhist teachings, and created a western soft drink that doubles as a stool softener for the suppressions and guilt of the affluent.

What is it that brings people to Tolle?
They want answers, they want methods, they want to feel good – and Tolle delivers. He provides endless explorations and sidebar excursions for his acolytes. They call him "Master" and he smiles, agreeing in his "humble" schoolboy sweaters.

He provides sophisticated justification for staying in the "NOW" — teaching that if you just feel pleased with yourself at how PRESENT you are – to ALL that "COMES UP" – "in consciousness" – that's all that is required; what a relief!

Tolle is the Viagra of the New Age movement. He keeps it up – his endless soft-spoken smugness, this lifelong job of staying in "awareness"– longer than anyone; even the Dalai Lama (and I've sat through some excruciatingly long DL teachings) thought possible!

While the world is teaming with untold suffering, "Mr. Relaxed" holds court for the spoiled brats of consumerism. No practical solutions are offered to help ease the REAL suffering in this world — no— the con job here is that you NEED to FOCUS on YOURSELF and your needs and desires before you can do anything practical for others.

There is never a call to action. Never a calling out about the nature of our true religion here on earth: MONEY. Never a response that will give incentive to his audience to apply their vast resources to help repair the death spiral we have created in the form of consumer capitalism.

You know what, go f*%k yourself, Ekhart Tolle….oh, wait – that's what you're doing.

I don't claim to be a scholar. I am not an academic, I do not work in the press but I am an aware and watchful citizen and I will speak out against what I see as an ever-expanding globalist hegemony that diminishes the inalienable rights of the individual in subservience to the authority of the state, or the corporation, or to the ever-increasing merger of the two.

If I could actually believe that our think-tanks, scholars and press were free from the influence-peddling of corporate interests, and if, in some way, I could believe that the US fights the wars it fights for the cause of democracy – and not empire maintenance and building – then I would not be so convinced that articles such as the one below are trial balloons set out to destabilize what is left of our participatory democracy.

In this February 6th column by Adam Liptak in the New York Times entitled, "The Declining Influence of the United States Constitution" Liptak writes, "The United States Constitution is terse and old, and it guarantees relatively few rights." This article cites a study written by Council on Foreign Relations fellow David S. Law. It attempts to spin the idea that the inalienable rights of every citizen are "relative" and that these values can, and, should be amended, depending on the needs of the times. The underlying assumption here is that it is the state "grants" us the rights we enjoy as citizens.

The US constitution is in service to the people, not the people to the constitution. The values of equality and the right to fair trial and free speech are not gifts of the state. The state is the vehicle that protects all, equally, under the law. The creeping menace of our age is a prescriptive authoritarianism that seeks to recast government as "governance" – a governance of mutable rights, laws and principles that are adjusted according to the whims of self-interest and corporate interest disregarding the principle and consideration of what is best for all.

Investigate the Equal Money Solution. We can create a world that is best for all, starting locally with projects such as the Basic Income Grant and extending globally, this time without the globalists.

I was watching an interview today with WIlliam Cooper, the late UFO and conspiracy investigator, where he questions the belief, held by an astounding number of otherwise functioning adults, that 'aliens' and "off-planet guardians" from "federations of light" are going to magically come to save us when the shit really hits the fan. Cooper wonders why the aliens would bother saving a race of people such as ourselves.

I remember the way dogs used to be trained when I was growing up: if you didn't want them to poo in the house you were suppose to "stick their nose in it." Do we need to have our noses stuck in the shit of this world? Imagine standing by and watching an innocent puppy being dismembered. Are you responsible for the dismemberment? Not directly. Were you able to intervene? Yes, most likely. Might your intervention have caused a different outcome? Yes, probably. So are we not sharing in the responsibility for the dismemberment if we do nothing? Yes.

I grew up in the shadow of two Kool-Aid "tests": the Ken Kesey "Acid" test (Kesey, by the way was in the military intelligence and may have been purposely placed as a diversionary agent to off-track the anti-war movement…but you won't read about that in Vanity Fair) a "movement" that provided no practical solutions for creating real equality (but they did ride around high in hand-painted buses, spawning a copycat trend of handpainted vans throughout my neighborhood in the 70s…) Then there was the Jim Jones Kool-Aid experiment, ending in hundreds of spiritual drones killing themselves for some insane promise of a better life far away from their jungle retreat.

These two Kool-aid "tests" were the bookends of the sixties movement in America. From both ends there was the belief that by creating an ALTERNATIVE REALITY in the MIND, peace within could be found. The missing 'peace' was the peace without. The poo is still sitting on the carpet, no matter how much Koolaid, coke or LSD we take.

OF COURSE we would all like to escape the nightmare of what we see happening on earth. How can we actually live a normal life when we are aware, to take just one example, that innocent children are being killed and maimed by unmanned drones?
If our noses were stuck in it – if we were forced to view the REAL TIME events that are actually occurring on the planet – would we be able to drink our Kool aid and pretend we don't have to take a stand?

2. Realizing that we have done little to fundamentally challenge the outrageous inequalities of this planet and that we are responsible through our passivity, we STOP participation. This creates withdrawal from the consumer matrix: self-examination, self-forgiveness and whatever else we need!

3. The individual realizes they cannot change the planetary hypnosis of self-interest by themselves so they join with other like-minded people to create practical solutions. They learn about, and promote programs such as the Basic Income Grant and the implementation of democratic safeguards and standards.

We do not take to the streets; we work with what is already here – withdrawing from the onslaught of consumer impulsing; taking the time to examine the underlying causes of our alienation.

The key, the crux... the crucible...the cross, and the beheading of the matrix is the point of taking individual responsibility for this entire manifestation! This is the ultimate Liberation! How so?

We have alienated ourselves from our true purpose: to provide a world for all life to flourish. We have bought a lie that we are here to compete – with each other, with ourselves, with God and with nature. To challenge this lie and to stand up to this lie is the ultimate liberation.

Mark Twain once tried to distinguish between the storyteller’s art and tales that a machine could generate. He observed that stringing “incongruities and absurdities together in a wandering and sometimes purposeless way, and seem innocently unaware that they are absurdities,” was the province of the American storyteller. A machine might imitate simple formulas behind yarns, but never quite master them.

The Pentagon’s freewheeling research arm is hoping to prove Twain wrong. Darpa is asking scientists to “take narratives and make them quantitatively analyzable in a rigorous, transparent and repeatable fashion.” The idea is to detect terrorists who have been indoctrinated by propaganda. Then, the Pentagon can respond with some messages of its own.

The program is called “Narrative Networks.” By understanding how stories have shaped your mind, the Pentagon hopes to sniff out who has fallen prey to dangerous ideas, a neuroscience researcher involved in the project tells Danger Room. With this knowledge, the military can also target groups vulnerable to terrorists’ recruiting tactics with its own counter-messaging.

“Stories are important in security contexts,” Darpa said in an Oct. 7 solicitation for research proposals. Stories “change the course of insurgencies, frame negotiations, play a role in political radicalization, influence the methods and goals of violent social movements.” The desire to study narratives has been simmering for a while in the Defense Department. A Darpa workshop in April to discuss the “neurobiology of narratives” added momentum to this project.

In the first 18-month phase of the program, the Pentagon wants researchers to study how stories infiltrate social networks and alter our brain circuits. One of the stipulated research goals: to “explore the function narratives serve in the process of political radicalization and how they can influence a person or group’s choice of means (such as indiscriminant violence) to achieve political ends.”

Once scientists have perfected the science of how stories affect our neurochemistry, they will develop tools to “detect narrative influence.” These tools will enable “prevention of negative behavioral outcomes … and generation of positive behavioral outcomes, such as building trust.” In other words, the tools will be used to detect who’s been controlled by subversive ideologies, better allowing the military to drown out that message and win people onto their side.

“The government is already trying to control the message, so why not have the science to do it in a systematic way?” said the researcher familiar with the project.

When the project enters into a second 18-month phase, it’ll use the research gathered to build “optimized prototype technologies in the form of documents, software, hardware and devices.” What will these be? Existing technology can carry out micro-facial feature analysis, and measure the dilation of blood vessels and eye pupils. MRI machines can determine which parts of your brain is lighting up when it responds to stories. Darpa wants to do even better.

In fact, it’s calling for devices that detect the influence of stories in unseen ways. “Efforts that rely solely on standoff/non-invasive/non-detectable sensors are highly encouraged,” the solicitation reads.

Forget lie detectors; invisible propaganda-detectors are the future.

As the global warming edifice crumbled in 2010, the movement lost one of its leading lights due to the Climategate revelations. Dr. Judith Curry, the chair of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at GA Institute of Tech, explained her defection from the global warming activist movement. "There is 'a lack of willingness in the climate change community to steer away from groupthink...' They are setting themselves up as second-rate scientists by not engaging,” Curry wrote in 2010. Curry critiqued the UN IPCC for promoting "dogma" and clinging to the "religious importance" of the IPCC's claims. "They will tolerate no dissent and seek to trample anyone who challenges them," Curry lamented. "The IPCC assessment process had a substantial element of schoolyard bullies, trying to insulate their shoddy science from outside scrutiny and attacks by skeptics...the IPCC and its conclusions were set on a track to become a self fulfilling prophecy," Curry wrote. Curry called the Climategate fallout nothing short of a "rather spectacular unraveling of the climate change juggernaut...I immediately realized that [Climategate] could bring down the IPCC...I became concerned about the integrity of our entire field...While my colleagues seemed focused on protecting the reputations of the scientists involved and assuring people that the 'science hadn't changed." As new data and science continued to call into question man-made global warming claims, one of the movements leading fear promoters shocked the world by beginning to retreat from his dire predictions. Green guru James Lovelock warned in 2007 that, "Before this century is over, billions of us will die and the few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in the Arctic." The Golden Fleeced

The world is in a real mess.
We (let's start with Europe and USA) have been trapped through our desire for riches — trapped by entitlement and a simultaneous disregard for those at a disadvantage i.e. the poor of the world — those who make up over half the world's population.

It appears to be OUR turn to be fleeced. While we ignored the fleecing of our own infrastructure — allowing the corporations to flee our national borders, to take advantage of cheap labor aboard, to abuse that cheap labor (for starters) — our future was being written on a promissory note— trading our future labor potential for the debt we accrued. Within this fiscal agreement, our labor is the only real human resource we can barter. Our labor potential is promised for debt that can NEVER be paid within our lifetime. Instead, our unwillingness to take responsibility for a flawed monetary system will be passed on to the children to come. They will be born and live in debt slavery. And all because we allowed it.

Raising the "debt ceiling" is raising the debt for the children of the future.
The other option, the 'choice' of default, is nothing short of handing over public assets and national resources to private institutions and banks. What kind of a choice is this?

So, while my generation was partying and singing along with Bob Marley tunes about the "days of slavery" we never considered that it was our responsibility to actually commit ourselves to ending the slavery we were creating.

A July 12 article,"Mass psychosis in the US: How Big Pharma got American hooked on anti-psychotic drugs" from Al jazeera reports that anti psychotic drugs have become the single top-selling therapeutic class of prescription drugs in the United States representing over $14 billion in sales in 2008. "Americans with symptoms ranging from chronic depression to anxiety to insomnia are now being prescribed anti-psychotics at rates that seem to indicate a national mass psychosis."

Mental illness is now the leading cause of disability in children in the US.

With no "biological tests for mental disorders" psychiatry is especially "vulnerable to industry influence." Not surprisingly, 18 out of 20 of the psychiatrist who wrote the American Psychiatric Association's most recent clinical guidelines for treating depression (Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), bipolar disorders, and schizophrenia had financial ties to drug companies. Short on efficacy studies but big on greed, Big Pharma predators and their doctor-buddies go after the weakest links: the elderly and children.

"Mental illness" is now the leading cause of disability in children in the United States.
"According to a recent Columbia University study, the number of children and adolescents treated for bipolar disorder rose 40-fold between 1994 and 2003." 40 Fold? ????

One horrific example of these predators comes from a series published in May in the Palm Beach Post which "revealed that the state of Florida's juvenile justice department has literally been pouring these drugs into juvenile facilities, "routinely" doling them out "for reasons that never were approved by federal regulators." The numbers are staggering: "In 2007, for example, the Department of Juvenile Justice bought more than twice as much Seroquel as ibuprofen. Overall, in 24 months, the department bought 326,081 tablets of Seroquel, Abilify, Risperdal and other antipsychotic drugs for use in state-operated jails and homes for children…That's enough to hand out 446 pills a day, seven days a week, for two years in a row, to kids in jails and programs that can hold no more than 2,300 boys and girls on a given day." Further, the paper discovered that "One in three of the psychiatrists who have contracted with the state Department of Juvenile Justice in the past five years has taken speaker fees or gifts from companies that make antipsychotic medications."

This is the free market system at it's most despicable. Humanity has shown (once again) that it cannot be trusted with the protection of the common good. It's time to expose the so-called Noble Truths of Buddhism for what they really are: a philosophical detour from the creation of practical solutions for solving inequality here on earth. It is amazing we are able to sit around and meditate while millions starve to death, and still, we have the hubris to call ourselves 'spiritual'! This astounding disregard for the immediate suffering of so many, combined with our ability to live in denial of this disregard, is arguably among the most egregious flaws of the human.

Buddhism promotes an exit strategy from this world – transcend this world and and you get 'nirvana' – a heavenly existence for eternity in a Buddha heaven (with a sixteen year old consort if you've really transcended!)

The First 'Noble' Truth (or, 'Hit the road Jack, don't look back')
The first "noble truth' is that life is suffering. To accept this is to accept that suffering is unalterable; it is a permanent condition; it is a common bond we all share. But it does not explain the unequal distribution of suffering. Why do some suffer immeasurably more than others? Why is suffering is unequal in it's distribution and staggering in it's pervasiveness, with no obvious cause and effect? How does Buddhism explain this disparity?

I rename the first Noble Truth to: Life is to Live Now on Earth, Equally for All.
Life's purpose and meaning and nature is not to suffer.

The Second Noble Truth: Suffering is caused by attachment
This is the passive rabbit pulled out of the red hat.
The uneven distribution of suffering, says the Buddhist, is the result of past-life karma. Using this logic, a child who is starving and eating out of a garbage dump suffers now because in a past life she acted in ignorance of the second noble truth – that suffering is born from attachment. If everyone gets what they deserve, then we really have no responsibility towards one another. We may cultivate an abstract compassion for all of humanity; we may pray and do pujas in the comfort of the monastery for those ignorant of law of attachment – but to go out and actually change the world system? Why should we when the system is immutable?

Buddhism sprinkles a little truth over a big lie. The little truth is that, of course, one can see that attachment causes suffering – attachment to ego, to an idea of 'self', to wealth, or fame, or to any kind of craving creates suffering. But in order to explain why a child is born into acute poverty, Buddhism claims it's because this child was attached in a past life. This is the justification for the uneven distribution of suffering and it is justification to do nothing to fundamentally challenge the world system.

I rename the second Noble Truth to: Suffering is caused by attachment; I apply self-forgiveness and Self-corrective statements to correct this and I help others to do the same. We can create Heaven on Earth.

Now they tell another story - insisting that the units were built with no inherent life span, and can run for up to a century.

By rewriting history, plant owners are making it easier to extend the lives of dozens of reactors in a relicensing process that resembles nothing more than an elaborate rubber stamp.

Regulators and industry now contend that the 40-year limit was chosen for economic reasons and to satisfy antitrust concerns, not for safety issues. They contend that a nuclear plant has no technical limit on its life.

Relicensing is a lucrative deal for operators. By the end of their original licenses, reactors are largely paid for. When they're operating, they're producing profits. They generate a fifth of the country's electricity.’

During its Aging Nukes investigation, the AP conducted scores of interviews and analyzed thousands of pages of industry and government records, reports and data. The documents show that for decades compromises have been made repeatedly in safety margins, regulations and emergency planning to keep the aging units operating within the rules. The AP has reported that nuclear plants have sustained repeated equipment failures, leading critics to fear that the U.S. industry is one failure away from a disaster.

What is Aspartame?
Two isolated amino acids in aspartame are fused together by its third component – deadly methanol. In this structure, methanol bonds the two amino acids together.
Methanol breaks down into formic acid and formaldehyde, embalming fluid. Methanol is a dangerous neurotoxin, a known carcinogen, and causes retinal damage in the eye, interferes with DNA replication, and causes birth defects.,
Aspartic acid makes up forty percent of the structure of aspartame. Aspartic acid is a neuroexicter, which means its structure affects the central nervous system. The synthetic amino acids that compose aspartame-- phenylalanine, aspartic acid, and the methanol in which they are bound, are poison, neurotoxins.

Aspartame 'liberates' free methyl alcohol. The resulting chronic methanol poisoning affects the dopamine system of the brain causing addiction. Methanol, or wood alcohol, constitutes one third of the aspartame molecule and is classified as a severe metabolic poison and narcotic.

Methanol (wood alcohol, 10% of aspartame) is a cumulative toxin in the body. Since it is "free" methanol", appearing without ethanol (the antidote for methanol toxicity always present in natural food such as fruit juice), the methanol in aspartame is lethal. Methanol destroys the optic nerve and can cause blindness. Fetal tissue cannot tolerate methanol.

The methanol in aspartame breaks down into formaldehyde (embalming fluid) and formic acid which has the chemical composition of ant venom. Formic acid is used commercially in products such as paint stripper.

Phenylalanine (50% of aspartame) causes seizures and degrades into DKP, a tumor causing agent. Aspartic acid (40% of aspartame) caused holes in the brains of mice (Dr. John Olney, neuroscientist, Washington University, St. Louis, Mo.)

According the many health experts and peer review studies, aspartame causes headache, memory loss, seizures, vision loss, coma and cancer. It worsens or mimics the symptoms of such diseases and conditions as fibromyalgia, MS, lupus, ADD, diabetes, Alzheimer's, chronic fatigue and depression.

Strong statistical evidence links aspartame to breast cancer. The American Cancer Society figures show that breast cancer cases have doubled since 1981, the year aspartame was approved for use as a food additive.

1978 research projects at the Department of Psychology, Northeastern Illinois University found that aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet) causes reproductive dysfunction in male and female animals, endocrine dysfunction in the pituitary, thyroid, ovaries and testicles, a decrease in locomotor function and an increase in body weight.
Records released by the Freedom of Information Act show that aspartame caused dozens of mammary tumors in animals tested from 1971 to 1974 by G.D. Searle, the pharmaceutical company, responsible for aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet).

The FDA's own toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross told Congress unequivocally that aspartame can cause brain tumors and brain cancer and that aspartame violates the Delaney Amendment which forbids putting anything in food that is known to cause Cancer. Detailed information on this can be found in the Bressler Report (FDA report on Searle).

In 1971, a woman's lifetime risk for contracting breast cancer was one in fourteen. Today it is one in eight. (The Breast Cancer Prevention Program, Samuel S. Epstein, M.D. and David Steinman, Macmillan, 1997)
Pathologist Dr. Charles H. Frith spent 3 days with the FDA to review 145 animals from Searle's DKP toxicity study. Sufficient slides substantiated 73 female animals with grossly observed masses. (Bressler Report to FDA, DORway.com)

The Real Threat

We know the state of the world. We see the horrible suffering so many endure. When someone posits the argument that we have been programmed and managed like herd animals we call that person a psychopath, a dummy or a conspiracy nut— we label them a threat.

And it is a threat — a threat to the fictional world most of us inhabit.

To suggest we do not detach from the horrors of this world is a threat to the ridiculous chatter, the "positive thinkers" , the superfluous tweeting of robots.

I spoke to my mother recently and she was talking (complaining, really) about money. I pointed out our elite status relative to the rest of the world; that half the world lived on less than $2 a day. In the "old" days, she said, "we didn't know about all that" -- as if a) that were true or b) this let everybody "off the hook."

Knowing what was happening still didn't mandate, in her mind, any responsibility to do something. I don't mean to pick on my mother. She just highlighted my own –albeit it –my more "sophisticated" justifications and the excuses I generated (primarily) through "spirituality" to believe I was making a difference.

Spirituality, mysticism, religion -- all of it -- allowed me to stay in a fictional world – a promissory fictional world – of future rewards, future heros, future worlds/heavens – a "partial" reality….where I was "blessed" to be "special"; with a responsibility, all in the mind, believing "thoughts" (prayer and the generation of good will) would, miraculously, create a practical solution.

We are the Romans partying while the Barbarians besiege our city, our "way of life". Our delusion that we are not responsible for one another.

When the pursuit of money is put above the needs of people; when the pursuit of "inner peace" and pleasure takes precedent over doing whatever it takes to help those who cannot help themselves –– we are not worthy of the benevolence provided by this earth.

We think those we elect at the top serving the common good. We believe that by voting "public servants" that they will do the hard work for us of putting the world right. This is how we are able to sleep at night.

This is how we have created a fictional reality. Its the one most have chosen to live in — The Partial Reality Show.

"As we will see in Egypt, military coups will be disguised as regime changes. Already the public is being conditioned to view the Egyptian military as beloved liberators. But in fact they are simply another arm of the autocratic government, no more familiar with democratic ideals than the dictator they replace...who had himself been drawn from the ranks of the military.
History has not been newly made – it has only been repeated. Since the 1952 Egyptian Revolution, when army officers overthrew King Farouk I, the nation has been run by members of the military…until Friday, by former Air Force General Hosni Mubarak.

And now, Omar Suleiman (Egypt’s spy chief until Mubarek appointed him to Vice President on January 29) will also serve on the Armed Forces Supreme Council that will run the country, according to Al Jazeera.

Suleiman’s ascent to VP had been long in the making. According to a 2007 WikiLeaked US diplomatic cable titled 'Presidential Succession in Egypt' – "Egyptian intelligence chief and Mubarak consigliere, in past years Soliman (sic) was often cited as likely to be named to the long-vacant vice-presidential post. Many of our contacts believe that Soliman, because of his military background, would at least have to figure in any succession scenario."

In addition to Suleiman being accused of viciously stamping out political opposition and killing, jailing and brutalizing public dissenters during his 17 years as intelligence chief, he was also the “CIA’s man in Cairo” for, in part, devising and implementing the US rendition program. Beginning under President Clinton and continuing through the George W. Bush regime, the US, instead of bringing suspected enemies of the state (i.e., “terrorists”) to trial, would kidnap them and send them to Egypt, the destination of choice, to be interrogated and tortured.

Heading the Supreme Council of the newly “liberated” Egypt is Defense Minister Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, who, according to a WikiLeaked 2008 diplomatic cable, is referred to by mid-level Egyptian officers as ''Mubarak's poodle'' - incompetent and archaic but intensely loyal to his President. The cable assesses Tantawi as having “opposed both economic and political reforms that he perceives as eroding central government power.”

Other Council members include Defense Minister Lt. General Sami Anan, chief of staff of the Egyptian army, and Air Marshal Ahmed Shafiq, the new prime minister – all stalwart Mubarak supporters.

Yet, despite those in charge being the antithesis of democracy, President Obama proclaimed, “Egyptians have made it clear that nothing less than genuine democracy will carry the day. The people of Egypt have spoken – their voices have been heard and Egypt will never be the same.”

“It’s an Egyptian version of ‘Change We Can Believe In,’" reported our man on the scene of the insurrection, John Anthony West, Executive Editor of the Trends Journal. “The people cheer and wave flags, and say exactly the same stupid things except in Arabic. Even the idiot exultation of the press whores sounds the same!” commented West, who arrived in Egypt two days before the protests began on January 25^th, and has just returned to the States.

Mr. West warns, “Expect something even more dramatic, drastic and long-lasting when the nationwide, inescapable non-change sinks in a few months from now.”

As with Egypt, in the “Democratic” USA, politicians, media and the nation-at-large put their trust and better judgment in the hands of their glorious, benevolent, military men and their magnificent war machines. Yet, as history has long proven, military rule, (decried as “juntas” in countries the US does not do business with) is invariably brutal and only infrequently does legislative power return to the people. If elections are held they are usually rigged and the only change is a change of clothes – from a tailored General’s uniform to a tailored Armani suit.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Trend Forecast: Getting rid of one person does not make a revolution. As aptly noted by such infamous “revolutionaries” as Marx, Lenin, and Pol Pot, no revolution can succeed that doesn't replace all members of the former ruling class.

In Egypt, the military class still rules and the power of the 18-member Supreme Council of the Armed Forces goes uncontested. The Council’s first actions have been a suspension of the Constitution, dissolution of Parliament and imposition of a ban on labor strikes.

In what appears to be a concession to protestors, the Council has promised to stay in power only on a temporary basis, and to hold fair and open elections within six month’s time…which is essentially the same election timetable proposed by Mr. Mubarak.

While no one can predict whether the military rulers will relinquish power and allow free elections, what can be assumed is that they will not willingly forego the estimated $2 billion in annual US aid the Egyptian government receives.

Since Mubarak’s exit, Beltway policy wonks and political front-men have been urging Washington to funnel funds to “pro democracy” groups in Egypt as part of an effort to influence the shape of the next government, to insure “stability” and support US foreign policy interests.

Since the Chairman’s note is very long, I shall summarize the main points:

Finance:

Western countries will jointly provide $100 billion a year by 2020 to an unnamed new UN Fund. To keep this sum up with GDP growth, the West may commit itself to pay 1.5% of GDP to the UN each year. That is more than twice the 0.7% of GDP that the UN has recommended the West to pay in foreign aid for the past half century. Several hundred of the provisions in the Chairman’s note will impose huge financial costs on the nations of the West.

The world-government Secretariat:

In all but name, the UN Convention’s Secretariat will become a world government directly controlling hundreds of global, supranational, regional, national and sub-national bureaucracies. It will receive the vast sum of taxpayers’ money ostensibly paid by the West to the Third World for adaptation to the supposed adverse consequences of imagined (and imaginary) “global warming”.

Bureaucracy:

Hundreds of new interlocking bureaucracies answerable to the world-government Secretariat will vastly extend its power and reach. In an explicit mirroring of the European Union’s method of enforcing the will of its unelected Kommissars on the groaning peoples of that benighted continent, the civil servants of nation states will come to see themselves as servants of the greater empire of the Secretariat, carrying out its ukases and diktats whatever the will of the nation states’ governments. Many of the new bureaucracies are disguised as “capacity-building in developing countries”. This has nothing to do with growing the economies or industries of poorer nations. It turns out to mean the installation of hundreds of bureaucratic offices answerable to the Secretariat in numerous countries around the world. Who pays? You do, gentle taxpayer. Babylon, Byzantium, the later Ottoman Empire, the formidable bureaucracy of Nazi Germany, the vast empire of 27,000 paper-shufflers at the European Union: add all of these together and multiply by 100 and you still do not reach the sheer size, cost, power and reach of these new subsidiaries of the Secretariat.

The world government’s powers:

The Secretariat will have the power not merely to invite nation states to perform their obligations under the climate-change Convention, but to compel them to do so. Nation states are to be ordered to collect, compile and submit vast quantities of information, in a manner and form to be specified by the secretariat and its growing army of subsidiary bodies. Between them, they will be given new powers to verify the information, to review it and, on the basis of that review, to tell nation states what they can and cannot do.

Continuous expansion:

The verb “enhance”, in its various forms, occurs at least 28 times in the Chairman’s note, Similar verbs, such as “strengthen” and “extend”, and adjectives such as “scaled-up”, “new” and “additional”, are also frequently deployed, particularly in relation to funding at the expense of Western taxpayers. If all of the “enhancements” proposed in the note were carried out, the cost would comfortably exceed the annual $100 billion (or, for that matter, the 1.5% of GDP) that the note mentions as the cost to the West over the coming decade.

Intellectual property in inventions:

Holders of patents, particularly in fields related to “global warming” and its mitigation, will be obliged to transfer the benefits of their inventiveness to developing countries without payment of royalties. This is nowhere explicitly stated in the Chairman’s note, but the transfer of technology is mentioned about 20 times in the draft, suggesting that the intention is still to carry out the explicit provision in the defunct Copenhagen Treaty draft of 15 September 2009 to this effect.

Insurance:

The Secretariat proposes, in effect, to interfere so greatly in the operation of the worldwide insurance market that it will cease to be a free market, with the usual severely adverse consequences to everyone in that market.

The free market:

The failed Copenhagen Treaty draft stipulated that the “government” that would be established would have the power to set the rules of all formerly free markets. There would be no such thing as free markets any more. In Cancun, the Chairman’s note merely says that various “market mechanisms” may be exploited by the Secretariat and by the parties to the Convention: but references to these “market mechanisms” are frequent enough to suggest that the intention remains to stamp out free markets worldwide.

Knowledge is power:

The Chairman’s note contains numerous references to a multitude of new as well as existing obligations on nation states to provide information to the Secretariat, in a form and manner which it will dictate. The hand of the EU is very visible here. It grabbed power from the member-states in four stages: first, acting merely as a secretariat to ensure stable supplies of coal and steel to rebuild Europe after the Second World War; then as a registry requiring member states to supply it with ever more information; then as a review body determining on the basis of the information supplied by the member states whether they were complying with their obligations on the ever-lengthier and more complex body of European treaties; and finally as the ultimate law-making authority, to which all elected parliaments, explicitly including the European “Parliament”, were and are subject. Under the Cancun propsoals, the Secretariat is following the path that the plague of EU officials here have no doubt eagerly advised it to follow. It is now taking numerous powers not merely to require information from nation states but to hold them to account for their supposed international obligations under the climate-change Convention on the basis of the information the nations are now to be compelled to supply.

Propaganda:

The Chairman’s note contains several mentions of the notion that the peoples of the world need to be told more about climate change. Here, too, there is a parallel with the EU, which administers a propaganda fund of some $250 million a year purely to advertise its own wonderfulness to an increasingly sceptical population. The IPCC already spends millions every year with PR agencies, asking them to find new ways of making its blood-curdling message more widely understood and feared among ordinary people. The Secretariat already has the advantage of an uncritical, acquiescent, scientifically illiterate, economically innumerate and just plain dumb news media: now it will have a propaganda fund to play with as well.

Damage caused by The Process:

At the insistence of sensible nation states such as the United States, the Czech Republic, Japan, Canada, and Italy, the Cancun outcome acknowledges that The Process is causing, and will cause, considerable economic damage, delicately described in the Chairman’s note as “unintended side-effects of implementing climate-change response measures”. The solution? Consideration of the catastrophic economic consequences of the Secretariat’s heroically lunatic decisions will fall under the control of – yup – the Secretariat. Admire its sheer gall.

Damage to world trade:

As the power, wealth and reach of the Secretariat grow, it finds itself rubbing uncomfortably up against other supranational organizations. In particular, the World Trade Organization has been getting antsy about the numerous aspects of the Secretariat’s proposals that constitute restrictions on international trade. At several points, the Chairman’s note expresses the “decision” – in fact, no more than an opinion and a questionable one at that – that the Secretariat’s policies are not restrictive of trade.

The Canute provision:

The conference will reaffirm the decision of its predecessor in Copenhagen this time last year “to hold the increase in global average temperature below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels”, just like that. In fact, temperature in central England, and by implication globally, rose 2.2 Celsius in the 40 years 1695-1735, as the Sun began to recover from its 11,400-year activity minimum, and rose again by 0.74 C in the 20^th century. There has been no warming in the 21^st century, but we are already well over 2 Celsius degrees above pre-industrial levels. The Canute provision, as some delegates have dubbed it (after the Danish king of early England who famously taught his courtiers the limitations of his power and, a fortiori, theirs when he set up his throne on the beach and commanded sea level not to rise, whereupon the tide came in as usual and wet the royal feet), shows the disconnect between The Process and reality.

Omissions:

There are several highly-significant omissions, which jointly and severally establish that the central intent of The Process no longer has anything to do with the climate, if it ever had. The objective is greatly to empower and still more greatly to enrich the international classe politique at the expense of the peoples of the West, using the climate as a pretext, so as to copy the European Union by installing in perpetuity what some delegates here are calling “transnational perma-Socialism” beyond the reach or recall of any electorate. Here are the key omissions:

The science: The question whether any of this vast expansion of supranational power is scientifically necessary is not addressed. Instead, there is merely a pietistic affirmation of superstitious faith in the IPCC, where the conference will “recognize that deep cuts in global [greenhouse-gas] emissions are required according to science, and as documented in the [IPCC’s] Fourth Assessment Report.”
The economics: There is no assessment of the extent to which any of the proposed actions to mitigate “global warming” by cutting emissions of carbon dioxide or to adapt the world to its consequences will be cost-effective. Nor, tellingly, is there any direct comparison between mitigation and adaptation in their cost-effectiveness: indeed, the IPCC was carefully structured so that mitigation and adaptation are considered by entirely separate bureaucracies producing separate reports, making any meaningful comparison difficult. Though every economic analysis of this central economic question, other than that of the now-discredited Lord Stern, shows that mitigation is a pointless fatuity and that focused adaptation to the consequences of any “global warming” that may occur would be orders of magnitude cheaper and more cost-effective, the Cancun conference outcome will continue to treat mitigation as being of equal economic utility with adaptation.
Termination: Contracts have termination clauses to say what happens when the agreement ends. Nothing better illustrates the intent to create a permanent world-government structure than the absence of any termination provisions whatsoever in the Cancun outcome. The Process, like diamonds, is forever.
Democracy: Forget government of the people, by the people, for the people. Forget the principle of “no taxation without representation” that led to the very foundation of the United States. The provisions for the democratic election of the new, all-powerful, legislating, tax-raising world-government Secretariat by the peoples of the world may be summarized in a single word: None.

How did this monstrous transfer of power from once-proud, once-sovereign, once-democratic nations to the corrupt, unelected Secretariat come about? The story begins with Sir Maurice Strong, an immensely wealthy UN bureaucrat from Canada who, a quarter of a century ago, established the IPCC as an intergovernmental, political body rather than as a scientific body precisely so that it could be maneuvered into assisting in the UN’s long-term aim, reiterated at a summit of senior UN officials this May by Ban Ki-Moon himself, of extinguishing national sovereignty and establishing a world government.

The Process began in earnest in 1988, when the IPCC was established. Shortly thereafter, on a June day in Washington DC deliberately chosen by Al Gore because it was unusually hot, his political ally and financial benefactor James Hansen appeared before a Congressional committee and put before it a wildly-exaggerated graph predicting global warming over the coming 20 or 30 years. Yet June 2008, the 20^th anniversary of his testimony, was cooler globally than June 1988, and worldwide warming has happened at less than half the rate he predicted.

The Rio Earth Summit in 1992 allowed environmental groups and world “leaders” to grandstand together. From that summit emerged the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which began holding annual conferences on “global warming”.

The Kyoto Protocol in 1997 committed its signatories to cut back their national CO2 emissions to 1990 levels by 2012. Most are not going to make it. The US Senate, with Al Gore as its president, voted 95-0 to reject any treaty such as Kyoto, which bound only the West while leaving developing nations such as China to emit carbon dioxide without constraint.

Very little progress had been made by the time of the Bali conference in 2007: but at that conference a “road-map” was constructed that was to lead to a binding international treaty in Copenhagen in 2009.

Just one problem with that. The US Constitution provides that, even if the President has signed a treaty, his signature is meaningless unless the treaty has been debated in the Senate, which must ratify it by the votes of at least 67 of the 100 Senators. It became clear to everyone, after the Obama administration failed to cajole or bully even 60 Senators into passing the Waxman/Markey cap-and-tax Bill, that no climate treaty would pass the Senate.

Worse, the Secretariat grossly overreached itself. Believing its own propaganda to the effect that none but a few vexatious, fossil-funded sceptics believed that “global warming” would be small enough to be harmless, it drafted and posted up on its website a 186-page draft Treaty of Copenhagen, proposing to turn itself into an unelected world government with unlimited powers to impose direct taxation on member nations without representation, recourse or recall, to interfere directly in the environmental policies of individual nations, and to sweep away all free markets worldwide, replacing them with itself as the sole rulemaker in every marketplace (treaty draft, annex 1, articles 36-38). Some quotations from the draft reveal the sheer ambition of the UN:

“The scheme for the new institutional arrangement under the Convention will be based on three basic pillars: government; facilitative mechanism; and financial mechanism. … The government will be ruled by the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change with the support of a new subsidiary body on adaptation, and of an Executive Board responsible for the management of the new funds and the related facilitative processes and bodies.” (Copenhagen Treaty draft of September 15, 2009, para. 38).

The three central powers that the UN had hoped to grant itself under the guise of Saving The Planet from alleged climate catastrophe were as follows:

“Government”: This use of the word “government” is the first use of the term to describe a world government in any international treaty draft.

“Financial mechanism”: The “financial mechanism” was a delicate phrase to describe a new power of the UN to levy unlimited taxation directly on the peoples of its member states: taxation without representation, and on a global scale.

“Facilitative mechanism”: This mechanism would, for the first time, have given the UN he power directly to coerce and compel compliance on the part of its member states, by force if necessary. The Treaty draft describes it as –

“… a facilitative mechanism drawn up to facilitate the design, adoption and carrying out of public policies, as the prevailing instrument, to which the market rules and related dynamics should be subordinate.”

In short, there was to be a New World Order, with a “government” having at its command a “financial mechanism” in the form of unlimited rights to tax the world’s citizen’s directly, and a “facilitative mechanism” that would bring the rules of all formerly free markets under the direct control of the new UN “government”, aided by an already-expanding series of bureaucracies.

At no point anywhere in the 186 pages of the Treaty draft do the words “democracy”, “election”, “ballot”, or “vote” appear. As the EU has already demonstrated, the transfer of powers from sovereign democracies to supranational entities brings those democracies to an end. At the supranational level, in the UN, in the EU and in the proposed world government, decisions are not made by anyone whom we, the voters, have elected to make such decisions.

The exposure of the draft treaty in major international news media panicked the UN into abandoning the draft before the Copenhagen conference even began. Instead, the UN is now legislating crabwise, as the European Union does, with a series of successive annual agreements, the last of which was the Copenhagen Accord, each transferring more power and wealth from individual nations to its supranational bureaucracy. The latest of these agreements is being finalized here in Cancun.

The European Union, which has stealthily stamped out democracy over the past half-century by a series of treaties each transferring a little more power and wealth from elected hands in the member states to unelected hands in Brussels, has been advising the Secretariat on how to do the same on a global scale.

After the spectacular bloody nose the Secretariat got in Copenhagen, it was most anxious not to endure a second failure in Cancun. To this end, it obtained the agreement of the German government to host a monthly series of conferences in Bonn in the early part of 2010, some of which were open to outside observers and some were behind closed doors in a comfortable suburban palace, where the new way of legislating for the world – in secret – first came into use.

The Chinese regime, anxious to get a piece of the action, agreed to host an additional session in Tientsin a few weeks ago. The purpose of this near-perpetual international junketing – which the national delegates have greatly enjoyed at our expense – was to make sure that nearly all of the elements in the Cancun agreement were firmly in draft and agreed well before Cancun, so as to avoid what too many journalists have tediously and obviously described as a “Mexican stand-off”.

It is precisely because of all this massive and expensive preparation that the note by the Chairman, whose main points are summarized above, may well reflect what is finally decided and announced here in a couple of days’ time. The Chairman is not simply guessing: this Note reflects what the Secretariat now confidently expects to get away with.

However, following the Copenhagen disaster, our grim future New Masters are taking no chances. They persuaded their friends in the mainstream news media, who cannot now easily back out of their original declarations of blind faith in the Church of “Global Warming” and are as anxious not to lose face as the Secretariat is, to put it about that at Cancun this year and even at Durban next year very little of substance will occur.

The intention is that, after not one but two international climate conferences, the second of them in Rio in 2012 on the 20^th anniversity of the Earth Summit that began it all, the Secretariat will have become so wealthy and will have accreted so much power to itself that no one – not even the US Senate – will dare to resist ratifying the Treaty of Rio that brings democracy to an end worldwide and fulfils Lord Mandelson’s recent statement that “we are now living in a post-democratic age.”

Over my dead body. The people know best what is best for the people. The governing class no doubt knows what is best for the governing class, but does not necessarily know what is best for the people, and must always be kept in check by the ballot-box.

If we are to have a world government at all (and, as the science of “global warming” alarm continues to collapse, the current pretext for world domination by a privileged few is wearing more than a little thin), then it is essential that the world government should be an elected government, and that, as Article 1, Section 1 of the US Constitution makes plain when it grants “All legislative power” to the elected Congress and to the now-elected Senate, none shall make laws for the world or impose taxes upon the world except those whom the people of the world have elected by universal secret ballot.

How can we, the people, defeat the Secretariat and keep the democracy we love? Simply by informing our elected representatives of the scope, ambition, and detail of what is in the Cancun agreement. The agreement will not be called a “Treaty”, because the Senate, particularly after the mid-term elections, will not pass it. But it can still be imposed upon us by the heavily Left-leaning Supreme Court, which no longer makes any pretence at judicial impartiality and may well decide, even if Congress does not, that the Cancun agreement shall stand part of US law on the ground that it is “customary international law”.

I call on COP16 delegates and the citizens of the world to repent of this dangerous course and so inform their government officials. It is the power of individual nations and individual citizens that is being taken away. It is democracy, that will perish from the Earth unless this burgeoning nonsense is stopped."

All deciduous trees in the Western world are affected, according to the study by a group of institutions, including the TU Delft University and Wageningen University. The city of Alphen aan den Rijn ordered the study five years ago after officials found unexplained abnormalities on trees that couldn't be ascribed to a virus or bacterial infection.

Additional testing found the disease to occur throughout the Western world. In the Netherlands, about 70 percent of all trees in urban areas show the same symptoms, compared with only 10 percent five years ago. Trees in densely forested areas are hardly affected.

This would eventually result in the death of parts of the leaves. The study also found that Wi-Fi radiation could inhibit the growth of corn cobs.

The researchers urged that further studies were needed to confirm the current results and determine long-term effects of wireless radiation on trees.

I just returned from Philadelphia. It seems to me to be a microcosm of America.

Among the very poorest are children under the age of 12.

If you want to see a complete disgrace, a complete hellhole, you should visit North Philly; you won't want to get out of your car; for any reason.

The elites have always "hedged their bets"; getting out of Dodge when it gets too scary, starting up charities to assuage guilt, etc., but never questioning participation in "the works" – the "works" being the entire apparatus that allows this outrageous, inter-generational, intractable poverty.

The non-elite elites (for we are still elite by most any measure) "hedge their bets" – wrapped up in family and jobs, fun and perhaps charities too – we are never outrageous, we hardly ever 'rock the boat'...and when financiers, media people, legal potentates, educators and bureaucrats of all variety – all willing to support organizations like the Federal Reserve and are willing to allow places like North Philly and the South Bronx to exist — well, we better have a good place to hide if a city like Philadelphia blows; we may all face our demons at the same time and there may not be enough band aids to go around.

The monetary system is not intractable. It can be changed. It has undergone many incarnations throughout human history. We must be courageous and speak out against the false left/right paradigm that supports this system. We must change the monetary system to reflect the value of LIFE; not the value of exclusivity, selfishness and disregard for those who cannot stand.

The coming quarters will be particularly dangerous for the world economic and financial system. The Chairman of the Fed Ben Bernanke passed on the message as diplomatically as possible at the recent meeting of world central bankers at Jackson Hole, Wyoming: even though the policy to revive the US economy has failed, either the rest of the world continues to fund US deficits at a loss and hopes that at some point the bet will pay off, avoiding a collapse of the global system, or the United States will monetize its debt and turn all the Dollars and US Treasury Bonds held by the rest of the planet into funny money. Like any power at bay, the United States and is now forced to introduce the threat of pressure to get what it wants. Barely a year ago the rest of the World’s leaders and financial officials had volunteered to « refloat the USA ship ». However, today things have drastically changed since the noble assurance from Washington (the Fed’s, like that of the Obama administration’s) proved to be only pure arrogance based on the pretense of having understood the nature of the crisis and on the illusion of possessing the means of controlling it. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has announced a new project to develop the soya value chain in Africa in partnership with American NGO, TechnoServe and agricultural commodity trading giant Cargill. The US$8 million project will be implemented as a four year pilot in Mozambique and Zambia with the intention of spreading the model to other regions in the future.

The Gates Foundation continues to back agricultural strategies that open new markets for strong corporate interests while assisting in the creation of policy environments to support foreign agribusiness’ interests. The programme will yoke African farmers into the soya value chain and open the door for major agribusiness players such as Cargill, while displacing African agricultural practices and traditional crops. In addition, there is a very real threat that this project could be a foot in the door for the introduction of genetically modified soya onto the Continent.

Since the green revolution of the 1960s, the soya bean has become the number one forage crop on the international market. About 85% of the world’s soybeans are processed into soya bean meal and oil, about 98% of that meal is further processed into animal feed, the balance is used to make soya flour and proteins. Approximately 95% of the oil is consumed as edible oil with the rest being used for industrial products such as fatty acids, soaps and agrofuel. In the last 40 years, production of soya bean has increased by over 500%, driven by the growing affluence of Chinese consumers, who are now eating more meat than ever before, as well as a significant increase in demand for soya beans as feedstock for biodiesel. In addition, soya beans fix nitrogen in the soil, thereby improving soil fertility and making it an excellent rotation crop.

The United States, Argentina and Brazil are the three major producers of soya in the world. The aggressive expansion of soya monocrops in Latin America has wreaked socio-economic and environmental disaster - in 2008 over 30 million hectares of soya was grown in Brazil and Argentina, where soya monocrops are notorious for displacing rural populations and causing mass deforestation. In April 2006, Greenpeace announced that in the 2004/2005 growing season, 1.2 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest was deforested as a consequence of soya expansion.

The vast majority of global soya crops are genetically modified to withstand applications of herbicides. (Approximately 93% of soya production in the USA is GM, 98.9% in Argentina and 70.7% in Brazil). The introduction of herbicide tolerant soya has created a sharp increase in the use of highly toxic herbicides – in the USA the use of herbicides has increased by 382.6 million pounds over the past 13 years, with herbicide tolerant soya beans accounting for 92% of that increase.

No multinational on the planet has greater interests in soya production and trade than the American corporation Cargill. Cargill’s business operations include purchasing, processing and distributing grain and agricultural commodities, the manufacture and sale of livestock feed and ingredients for processed foods and pharmaceuticals. Their assets and business operations in Latin America are staggering; it is responsible for over 75% of Argentina’s grain and oilseed production. It also has great interest in fertiliser production, having a two-thirds stake in one of the world’s leading fertiliser companies, Mosaic. Their business interests in Africa are scant in contrast. It has now partnered with the Gates Foundation to introduce a soya value chain in Africa.

The four year project will introduce soya production to 37 000 small-scale farmers in Mozambique and Zambia and aims to spread the model to other regions in the future. The project will target smallholder farmers and facilitate their access to agricultural inputs and new technology, facilitate market access, assist in infrastructure development and in developing enabling policies for investment.The cultivation of soya in Africa is negligible, with Africa contributing to less than 1% of global soya bean production. African countries that produced over 100 000 tons of soya bean in 2008 are Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Nigeria is the biggest producer of soya beans on the continent, harvesting a relatively modest 591 000 tons in 2008, mostly for domestic consumption. Egypt is the 13th biggest importer of soya bean in the world, importing 1.2 million tons in 2008 and producing 219 800 tons of soya bean oil. Morocco also imports soya for the production of oil and was the 19th largest importer of soya bean in 2008. Demand for soya outstrips production in Africa, creating the need to look outside of the region for commodities, predominantly soya bean cake for animal feed, but also for oil, meal and soya-derived products.

As demand for soya feed for the growing global livestock sector increases, along with a growing interest in the crop for biofuel production, soya is gaining influence as an attractive crop that is worthy of investment. Global prices for vegetable oil are good and this too, is attracting investment. There have been recent major private investments in oil processing plants in Uganda and Mozambique and investors are keen to contract local farmers to supply raw materials. This model threatens to bring farmers into a high-risk global market and shift agricultural practices from using local inputs to reliance on agribusiness products.

A further threat is the introduction of genetically modified soya into Africa. South Africa is the only country on the continent that is growing genetically modified soya and has been doing so since 2001. In 2006, about 75% of the area planted to soya was genetically modified and in 2008, approximately 88% of soya seed purchased was GM[i]. In 2010, South Africa has begun exporting genetically modified commodities to the rest of Africa for the first time. This is as a result of the finalization of African biosafety legislation that allows for the cultivation and import of GE crops and commodities. In early 2010, the Mozambican government allowed for the commodity import of 35,000 MT of GM soybeans[ii]. This is the first such permit authorised by the Executive Council in South Africa.

As the major global producers of soya have almost completely adopted GM in their production, it is likely that there will be great pressure for African farmers to adopt these seeds. The acceptance by the Mozambican government of the first GE shipment of soya from South Africa shows that their door is now open for African trade in GM soya, although the road to environmental releases of crops will be a longer and more arduous process. Zambia has traditionally been one of the strongest forces against genetically modified seed on the continent, taking an extremely cautious approach in its biosafety legislation. In 2002, the Zambian government rejected the import of GM food aid for almost 3 million starving people[iii]. It was an extremely controversial decision, but after despatching a group of scientists to investigate the safety of the crop, President Levy Mwanawasa held to his convictions in the face of massive international pressure. Could this support for the introduction of soya into the country be the beginning of the erosion of that caution?

At a conference here Wednesday, Schmidt noted that using artificial intelligence, computers can take 14 pictures of anyone on the Internet and stand a good chance of identifying that person. Similarly, the data collected by location-based services can be used not only to show where someone is at, but to also predict with a lot of accuracy where they might be headed next.

"Pretty interesting," Schmidt said. "Good idea, Bad idea?...The technology of course is neutral but society is not fundamentally ready."

His comments came at the start of Techonomy, a new conference devoted to looking at how technology is changing and can change society.

Schmidt said that society really isn't prepared for all of the changes being thrust upon it. "I think it's time for people to get ready for it."

Schmidt said these records are a challenge for everyone, himself included, as he noted he was a child of the 1960s.

"Raise your hand if you were a well-behaved teenager," Schmidt said, drawing few if any hands from the high-powered crowd.

Techonomy, which runs through Friday, is the brainchild of ex-Fortune staffers Brent Schlender, David Kirkpatrick, and Peter Petre. Other speakers include Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates and Sun co-founder Bill Joy.

Schlender said that the conference organizers remain fundamentally optimistic, a point echoed by Petre.

"We invent our way out of problems, even the problems we create," Petre said. "This is the truth we need to show to our children and their children."

Schmidt said he sees a balance eventually coming with society and governments coming to terms on how to regulate the collection of information. The end result, he said, will be that computers will be able to do what they are good at--store and recall information, while humans focus on intuition and problem solving.

"That separation of power is a reasonable one," he said.

On balance, Schmidt said that technology is good, but he said that the only way to manage the challenges is "much greater transparency and no anonymity."

Schmidt said that in an era of asymmetric threats, "true anonymity is too dangerous."

In a forthcoming issue of the journal Global and Planetary Change, researchers from the University of Auckland in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission in Fiji documented changes in 27 vulnerable, low-lying reef islands in the Central Pacific. Using aerial photographs taken as early as 1944, the areas were carefully mapped and compared with modern satellite images.

It turns out that the islands did, in fact, change over time, but they are hardly sinking. Overall, 20 grew or remained stable. The island of Funamanu, for example, expanded from 7.4 acres to 9.5 acres in size - a 28 percent growth. Only seven islands shrunk, with the biggest percentage change occurring on Tengasu, which dropped from a tiny 1.7 acres to 1.5 acres - a diminishment of 9,670 square feet, the size of Mr. Gore's Tennessee mansion.

At the end of WWII, most folk of goodwill welcomed the founding of the United Nations as a solution to the horror that was the war. Two generations later, the mask is off and the true face of the UN is apparent: that it is and always was an organization founded by a small group of bankers and other elites to serve the interests of said parties in order to impose what they term "global governance" — with the World Bank at the helm.

How did a small group of international bankers and intellectuals bypass the democratic process, ruling behind the scenes for over 100 years? This rise to power was a vast multi-prong infiltration; a gradual undermining of participatory democracy. It required an intense, long-term redefinition of traditional social and psychological mores, manipulated to isolate and leave defenseless the individual from the powers of the state — what Aldous Huxley called in 1925, "a reevaluation of values, a radical alteration (for the worse) of established standards".

The banking elite premote a type of "collectivism"; a system of governance much preferred over democracy. Democracy has at it's foundation the inherent bias for the individual and the inalienable rights of the individual. In contrast, the collectivist model prefers a "top-down" system. Through a gradualist approach, countries can be controlled through debt and bankers are guaranteed they will be paid back. This western version of "collectivism" is reminiscent of the Soviet system: the creation of a massive bureaucratic machine consisting of public-private institutions; front organizations like the World Health Organization (fronting for Big Pharma) and the World Bank; all brought about to control all of the means of production: resources, education and wealth distribution along with a quasi-religious belief in scientism. In the new feudalism it is the corporate CEOs who become the new feudal overlords.

The founders of the IMF and the World Bank were committed Fabians, adhering to an ideology that favor "gradualism", a gradual, intergenerational takeover of services and nation-states. Beginning with the formation of the League of Nations, this mandate includes the elimination of nation-states in favor of a centralized bureaucratic oligarchy. The EU is a shining example: The EU is a "corporate entity" with no resemblance to democratic principles —countries of the EU cannot introduce laws and cannot change laws. The EU itself if a legal personality with a "seat" at the UN. The EU is currently in the beginning stages of amalgamating all police and military forces. It is the fulfillment of Lenin's prophecy that eventually "all services will become authorities". The plan includes that the US will soon undergo it's own "amalgamation" in the creation of a North American Union.

In "gradualism" each generation is "updated" to the "new normal". In our time we see most evidently in the acceptance of "buying on credit" — something most of our grandmother's generation would never have accepted. Now it is seen as quite normal, even natural. Fabian techniques merge seamlessly with those of psycho-behavioralists like Bernase. Through novels, movies, mass media and other cultural propaganda the old ways are undermined and displaced. Dialectic methods of conflict creation provide the opportunity by the elite to bring in change. Moral relativism is the result, wherein a blurring of "good and evil" is accomplished and the result is what we have today; a debased, personality-obsessed consumerist culture.

Folks of good will believed international organizations like the UN stood as responsible proxies that would help bring about equality and serve the common good. What is little understood is that by withdrawing our active participation in the creation of an equitable world system we have, in effect, built a magnificent hen house for the wolf.

The western version of democracy is in truth a system wherein governments go to bankers for money, and the nation-states, through taxes, squeeze money from the people. The bankers prefer it that way; with governments top-heavy with public-private partnerships and every country is buried in debt and beholden to the international bankers. But what is really new? International bankers have operated as far back as the Roman Empire. Even in Greece, the so-called birth place of democracy, only the wealthy were allowed to vote. The bulk of the population were slaves and one could argue that this is still the case today: our slavery is in the form of debt.

This is an old system of economics wherein money is owed to bankers. Throughout western history the bankers have lent money to various nations, especially during war and these bankers have ended up owning the empires, running the show behind the scenes.

Our current debt economy is the result of fractional reserve banking. This occurred when the monetary system went off the gold standard. The IMF, the World Bank and the International Bank of Settlement were set up by a few banking families. These banking families united their interests as early as 1800's. These banking families have intermarried over generations to maintain their wealth and to this day the central banks are owned by only about 12 families.The history of the banking families is not easily found in our history books. We must search and investigate to uncover the real history of the "rise and fall of nations"

Going off the gold standard and introducing a fractional reserve banking required that banks only have to keep about 10% of the reserve they lend out. As Quigley outlined in his book Tragedy and Hope, the goal of the IMF, the World Bank and the International Bank of Settlement includes the penetration and right to oversee all national bookkeeping — in perpetuity. These bankers and their intellectual consorts envisioned a one-world-bank; the principle keystone to ensure their hegemony.

The central banks are not subject to any national audits. The U.S. Federal Reserve is a private bank. Regardless of party affiliation and who gets voted into office, we continue to see debt accurring with no accountability. Governments must borrow from bankers, and "the people" become the guarantors of the loans taken out. How is this possible?

In his book, "Tragedy and Hope", Carroll Quigley outlines how this idea of a world central bank began. Quigley was the official historian of the Council on Foreign Relations and mentor to Bill Clinton at Oxford. In this book Quigley delineates what Margaret Thatcher called, 'the parallel government" working within the Anglo-American "empire". This parallel government operates through public-private partnerships, foundations and other non-governmental organizations to bypass what we think of as the democratic process in order to implement their agenda. This agenda is based on a belief that an elite cadre of intellectuals, experts and bankers have the right and the obligation to decide and rule over the masses. In their own writing they say the "democracy is too cumbersome". This parallel government has as it's primary aim the gradual takeover of national sovereignty in favor of an oligarchy or what has been popularly called "a one-world government". Carroll Quigley describes in detail the plan by the elite to gradually take over the economies of all nations. He revels in the supremacy of what he termed the Anglo-American Establishment and discusses openly the affiliation of nearly every elected official for the past 100 years with this elite.

Public-private partnerships are key to the success of the agenda as they have little accountability, The private organizations come under a different set of rules, so governments are not held accountable. In Canada, for instance, most of the troops are trained by Blackwater. A private Spanish company, BAA owns all the airports in Britain. In the US, BAA is building toll roads in the Southwest. The public however funds these projects. The public pays for the building and then it's sold to the private companies and the public pays for the upkeep. Often the companies offer to sell it back to the countries for a huge profit. Another example of this is when under the fiscal crisis of the Thatcher government, the IMF came in and ran Britain selling off her industries: coal, water etc. which are now owned by private companies. These organizations have tremendous influence over our governmental agendas. It's really quite clever: the set up of the NGOs was a way to institute "administrative" law, bypassing constitutional, sovereign, democratic laws.

Quigley called this the new feudal system.

A document accidentally left on a European hotel computer and passed to the Guardian reveals the US government's increasingly controversial strategy in the global UN climate talks.

But the key phrase is in paragraph three where the author writes: "Create a clear understanding of the CA's [Copenhagen accord's] standing and the importance of operationalising ALL elements."

This is the clearest signal that the US will refuse to negotiate on separate elements of the controversial accord, but intends to push it through the UN process as a single "take it or leave it" text. The accord is the last-minute agreement reached at the chaotic Copenhagen summit in December. Over 110 countries are now "associated" with the accord but it has not been adopted by the 192-nation UN climate convention. The US has denied aid to some countries that do not support the accord.

• Strengthen presence in international media markets during trips abroad. Focus efforts on radio and television markets.

• Take greater advantage of new media opportunities such as podcasts to advance US position in the field bypassing traditional media outlets.

• Consider a series of policy speeches/public forums during trips abroad to make our case directly to the developing world.

Key outreach efforts

• Comprehensive and early outreach to policy makers, key stakeholders and validators is critical to broadening support for our positions in the coming year.

• Prior to the 9-11 April meeting in Bonn it would be good for Todd to meet with leading NGOs. This should come in the form of 1:1s and small group sessions.

• Larger group sessions, similar to the one held at CAP prior to Copenhagen, will be useful down the line, but more intimate meetings in the spring are essential to building the foundation of support. Or at the very least, disarming some of the harsher critics.

Phil Jones, former head of the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, made a number of eye-popping statements to the BBC's climate reporter on Sunday. Data from CRU, where Jones was the chief scientist, is key evidence behind the claim that the growth of cities (which are warmer than countryside) isn't a factor in global warming and was cited by the U.N.'s climate science body to bolster statements about rapid global warming in recent decades.

Jones's latest statements seemed to contradict the CRU's data.

In response to the question, "do you agree that from 1995 to the present there has been no statistically significant global warming?", Jones said yes, adding that the average increase of 0.12C per year over that time period "is quite close to the significance level. Achieving statistical significance in scientific terms is much more likely for longer periods, and much less likely for shorter periods."

Jones is nevertheless 100% confident that the climate has warmed, he stated, admitting that the Climate-gate scandal has undermined public confidence in science. The scandal has worn down Jones as well: Since the e-mails emerged -- and were subsequently posted online at www.EastAngliaEmails.com -- Jones has stepped down from his position, been forced to admit that he “misjudged” the handling of requests for information, and even acknowledged contemplating suicide.

Jones also allowed for the possibility that the world as a whole was warmer in medieval times than it is today -- a concession that may also undermine theories that global warming is caused by man.

In addition, Jones admitted that an overall lack of organization, and his poor record keeping and office-tidying skills, had contributed to his reluctance to share data with critics, which he regretted.

"To say when you're the record keeper for the globe's temperature that you're not a good record keeper, well, that's going to come back to haunt you for a long, long time," Pat Michaels.of the Cato Institute, a public-policy think tank, told Fox News.

After this week’s congressional hearing into the bailout of American International Group Inc., you have to wonder if those folks are crazy after all.

Wednesday’s hearing described a secretive group deploying billions of dollars to favored banks, operating with little oversight by the public or elected officials.

We’re talking about the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, whose role as the most influential part of the federal-reserve system -- apart from the matter of AIG’s bailout -- deserves further congressional scrutiny.

The New York Fed is in the hot seat for its decision in November 2008 to buy out, for about $30 billion, insurance contracts AIG sold on toxic debt securities to banks, including Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Merrill Lynch & Co., Societe Generale and Deutsche Bank AG, among others. That decision, critics say, amounted to a back-door bailout for the banks, which received 100 cents on the dollar for contracts that would have been worth far less had AIG been allowed to fail.

That move came a few weeks after the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department propped up AIG in the wake of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.’s own mid-September bankruptcy filing.

Saving the System

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was head of the New York Fed at the time of the AIG moves. He maintained during Wednesday’s hearing that the New York bank had to buy the insurance contracts, known as credit default swaps, to keep AIG from failing, which would have threatened the financial system.

The hearing before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform also focused on what many in Congress believe was the New York Fed’s subsequent attempt to cover up buyout details and who benefited.

By pursuing this line of inquiry, the hearing revealed some of the inner workings of the New York Fed and the outsized role it plays in banking. This insight is especially valuable given that the New York Fed is a quasi-governmental institution that isn’t subject to citizen intrusions such as freedom of information requests, unlike the Federal Reserve.

This impenetrability comes in handy since the bank is the preferred vehicle for many of the Fed’s bailout programs. It’s as though the New York Fed was a black-ops outfit for the nation’s central bank.

Geithner’s Bosses

The New York Fed is one of 12 Federal Reserve Banks that operate under the supervision of the Federal Reserve’s board of governors, chaired by Ben Bernanke. Member-bank presidents are appointed by nine-member boards, who themselves are appointed largely by other bankers.

As Representative Marcy Kaptur told Geithner at the hearing: “A lot of people think that the president of the New York Fed works for the U.S. government. But in fact you work for the private banks that elected you.”

And yet the New York Fed played an integral role in the government’s bailout of banks, often receiving surprisingly free rein to act as it saw fit.

Consider AIG. Let’s take Geithner at his word that a failure to resolve the insurer’s default swaps would have led to financial Armageddon. Given the stakes, you might think Geithner would have coordinated actions with then-Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. Yet Paulson testified that he wasn’t in the loop.

“I had no involvement at all, in the payment to the counterparties, no involvement whatsoever,” Paulson said.

Bernanke’s Denials

Fed Chairman Bernanke also wasn’t involved. In a written response to questions from Representative Darrell Issa, Bernanke said he “was not directly involved in the negotiations” with AIG’s counterparty banks.

You have to wonder then who really was in charge of our nation’s financial future if AIG posed as grave a threat as Geithner claimed.

Questions about the New York Fed’s accountability grew after Geithner on Nov. 24, 2008, was named by then-President- elect Barack Obama to be Treasury Secretary. Geither said he recused himself from the bank’s day-to-day activities, even though he never actually signed a formal letter of recusal.

That left issues related to disclosures about the deal in the hands of the bank’s lawyers and staff, rather than a top executive. Those staffers didn’t want details of the swaps purchase to become public.

New York Fed staff and outside lawyers from Davis Polk & Wardell edited AIG communications to investors and intervened with the Securities and Exchange Commission to shield details about the buyout transactions, according to a report by Issa.

That the New York Fed, a quasi-governmental body, was able to push around the SEC, an executive-branch agency, deserves a congressional hearing all by itself.

Later, when it became clear information would be disclosed, New York Fed legal group staffer James Bergin e-mailed colleagues saying: “I have to think this train is probably going to leave the station soon and we need to focus our efforts on explaining the story as best we can. There were too many people involved in the deals -- too many counterparties, too many lawyers and advisors, too many people from AIG -- to keep a determined Congress from the information.”

Think of the enormity of that statement. A staffer at a body with little public accountability and that exists to serve bankers is lamenting the inability to keep Congress in the dark.

This belies the culture of secrecy obviously pervasive within the New York Fed. Committee Chairman Edolphus Towns noted during the hearing that the bank initially refused to disclose even the names of other banks that benefited from its actions, arguing this information would somehow harm AIG.

‘Penchant for Secrecy’

“In fact, when the information was finally released, under pressure from Congress, nothing happened,” Towns said. “It had absolutely no effect on AIG’s business or financial condition. But it did have an effect on the credibility of the Federal Reserve, and it called into question the Fed’s penchant for secrecy.”

Now, I’m not saying Congress should be meddling in interest-rate decisions, or micro-managing bank regulation. Nor do I think we should all don tin-foil hats and start ranting about the Trilateral Commission.

Yet when unelected and unaccountable agencies pick banking winners while trying to end-run Congress, even as taxpayers are forced to lend, spend and guarantee about $8 trillion to prop up the financial system, our collective blood should boil.
